THE LEGEND OF BARANGAY TAMBOJANGIN
Barangay Tambojangin is one of the eight barangays of the Municipality of AMLAN. It is located west of barangay Poblacion, the heart of the town. Its boundary with barangay Poblacion is about 1.5 kilometers from the highway. The barangay can be easily penetrated through the road crossing the highway, adjacent to the Municipal Hall of AMLAN, going west.
Coconuts are the primary crops grown in the barangay, that's why "tuba" an extracted juice from coconuts, is the folk's favorate native wine. Banquets and any get-together parties would not be complete without it. Balitaw, balak, harana, and pandanggo are always executed one's spirit is aroused by this famous wine. Tuba is sold in any of the stores in the terminal area of the barangay.
Barangay Tambojangin started as a settlement before the coming of Americans. During that time, the place was not yet identified as a barangay. However, it was already bearing its beautiful name. It gets its name from the very famous tree which grew along the river of AMLAN traversing the place. As years passed, the tree grew bigger and bigger until it proudly stood at the midst of the place, as if competing to some other wild trees growing nearby. No other trees of its kind grew in the place.
Its name and its use were unknown to the folks until such time when thee inhabitants and the folks from nearby places were sick of hangin-hangin by a famous "tambalan" herbolario or quackdoctor in the place. Many died from "hangin-hangin". The inhabitants were searching for an herb that can cure such ailment. Until they tried scraping the bark and the roots of the unknown tree and used it as medicine. It was indeed a miracle that the tree completely cured all those who were sick of the disease. Inhabitants started calling the tree as "tambal-hangin". Such conditions and happenings had made the place popular. People from nearby and far-away places flocked in the place to get the bark and roots of the tambal- hangin until they called the place TAMBAL-HANGIN.
When the Municipality was divided into barangay, the place which was identified as one of the barangays of AMLAN was named in honor of the tree that saved the inhabitants from death. However, through slip of the tongue, tambal-hangin was change to TAMBOJANGIN.
Today, Barangay Tambojangin is one of the peaceful barangay of the Municipality of Amlan. It has contributed to the economic progress of the municipality and province of Negros Oriental because of its coconuts and buri-craft industries.
The Barangay is now headed by honest barangay officials, such that they always see to it that the good condition of the barangay road is always maintained.
The Barangay observes its annual fiesta every 16th of August, with Saint Roque as the patron Saint.

Its geographical features is bounded on the north by Barangay Jugno, on the west by Barangay Silab, on the south by Barangay Siapo of San Jose, and on the east by Barangay Mag-abo and Poblacion.

The climate of this barangay falls under the third as characterized by not very pronounced period of rainfull and with a short dry season from March to June.
C. TOPOGRAPHY
The topography of the land is varied such that the mid-portion of the barangay which is traversed by amlan river and the barangay road going to Poblacion is a valley.
D. EXISTING LAND USES
This barangay is primarily agriculture. About three fourths of the land area is planted with coconuts. A little portion is planted with sugarcane, corn, bamboos, buri and other crops. Coconuts are intercropped with bananas. The barangay has also small idle cogonal land for parture.
E. POPULATION
Barangay Tambojangin as of 1988 census, had a total population of 1,440 inhabitants with 253 households. At present, it has a total population of 2,195 with 525 households.
F. LITERACY RATE
Considering the livelihood of this barangay way back 1988 where it needed enough power in order to produce quality and quantity production, children were not sent to schools that's why about one-tenth of the inhabitants was illiterates. The remaining nine tenth of the inhabitants were illiterates since they can read and write, although they were only elementary graduates. Few had reached high school and college levels. Professional were only very few.
As of this moment the people here have changed their life style and many have gone to school. There are now many college graduates. Education becomes their top priority.
G. COMMERCE & INDUSTRY
Buri thrives best in the barangay, hence, two thirds of the inhabitants are directly dependent on buri-craft industry. Small children from nine years old and over are already expert in buri-craft weaving. One third of the inhabitants is engaged in farming, sawali making, buy and sell other livelihood projects.
Now, the Municipality of Amlan is well known of its buri-craft industries, with barangay Tambojangin as the center of the industry. More than one half of the buri-carft wavers in the municipality comes from this barangay. In addition to this, checkers of the buri-craft products for exports in the city of Cebu and Mandaue hails from the barangay.
