MEASLES

• ØFever of at least 3 days duration, with generalized blotchy maculopapular rashes; with history of cough, coryza, conjunctivitis or Koplik’s spots.
• Infectious Agent: Measles virus, a member of the genus Morbillivirus of the family Paramyxoviridae
• Reservoir/Host: Humans
• Mode of Transmission:
• Airborne by droplet spread
• Direct contact with nasal and throat secretions of infected persons
• Less commonly by articles freshly soiled with nose and throat secretions.
• ØIncubation period: 7-18 days, average 10 days
• Prevention
• lImmunization: Live attenuated measles vaccine is the agent of choice
